Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540, 1er Pack (1 x 70 ml)
Maison Francis Kurkdjian
Radiant and infinitely elegant, the flowery-woody ambrance notes of Baccarat Rouge 540 caress the skin. In the olfactory poem composed by Francis Kurkdjian, the breezy notes of jasmine and the radiance of saffron are accompanied by the mineral facets of amber and the woody notes of freshly cut cedar wood. An unforgettable fragrance signature - radiant, complex and intense. Infinitely luxurious. Both Baccarat and Maison Francis Kurkdjian transform raw materials, creating something new and sensual. To obtain the unique baccarat red, 24-carat gold dust is added to the crystal during the melting process. Then it is heated to 540 degrees. At this temperature, the crystal gets its legendary red colour. The contrast between the transparency of the crystal and the density of this unique and exclusive red clay was what Kurkdjian wanted to capture in a fragrance that is both radiant and intense. This is Baccarat Rouge 540.

Williams Chase Rose 2017 75cl
Maison Williams Constantin Chase
The latest venture of William Chase, who owns and set up the Chase Spirit Company and sold his crisp business, Tyrrells, in 2010. Set in the picturesque village of Lourmarin in the Luberon region, beautifully situated with Provence to the south and the Southern Rhône Valley to the north west, Made from a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Rousanne. In late 2012 William Chase (of the English Chase Vodka Brand) bought Château Constantin, located just north of Aix-en-Provence, near the quaint picturesque village of Lourmarin, which is best described in Peter Mayle's 'A Year In Provence'. At Château Constantin the wine making starts in the vineyards, which extend over 40 hectares, and are covered in beautiful 'vieille vignes', or 'old vines'. Planted during the 1960's, the domaine has been producing exquisite wines from unique terroirs and an exceptional climate. These low-yielding vines produce wines of exceptional quality, aided by the sunny climate and the cooling influence of the famous Mistral wind. Employing a similar ethos to producing his spirits in the UK, William insists on the very best production techniques, to guarantee that what is inside the bottle is truly very special. A classic Provençal blend of Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault, grapes are handselected from the vieilles vignes with an average age of 50 years old. and harvested at night. This preserves the freshness of the wine and a short cold-maceration for the must in contact with the skins imparts the enticing pale shade of pink. Fermentation is carried out in cuvées of each variety to enhance expression of their own unique personalities. The Grenache is aged on the lees and stirred regularly to instil the creamy quality to the wine, while the Syrah is racked and separated from the lees to maintain freshness and build length. The subtle fragrant aromas from the Cinsault give a delicate finesse to the rosé that continues from start to finish. Blended commences at the start of January and the three

La Maison de Claudine: Claudine's House by Colette
Walter Ballenberger
Colette was the pen name of Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette. She wrote a total of 50 novels in her career, and La Maison de Claudine, a biographical novel, is considered among her best. She also wrote Gigi, which became a highly successful Broadway play and later a famous motion picture. The picture on this ebook cover is a portrait of Colette painted by the artist Jacques Humbert in 1896 when she was 23 years of age.Having lived in France for several years, I think I can say that every French person has read or at least heard of Colette. She had a very celebrated literary career and received many distinguished honors, including being named a Chevalier (1920) and a Grand Officier (1953) of the Légion d'honneur. She was also elected President of the Académie Goncourt (1949) (and was the first woman admitted into it in 1945), among other honors. She was born in 1873 in the Burgundy region of France and died in 1954 in Paris. She was a liberated woman decades before that term was ever coined. In fact, putting it that way is understatement. She was married to three men in her lifetime, had affairs with several others, including a son-in-law, and she was intimately involved with and lived with at least one woman. As stated in Wikipedia, “All her novels were marked by clever observation and dialogue with an intimate, explicit style.” This is certainly true of La Maison de Claudine which was originally published in 1922. This autobiographical novel is a collection of essays which is mostly about the people who surrounded Claudine (Colette). She talks about her father, her sister, her brothers, her mother’s first husband, but mostly about her mother. She talks about growing up in the French countryside, and there are several essays that highlight all the animals that surrounded the family and the household. The book was not originally published in chapters, just as separate essays, and I have chosen to keep it that way in this translation. The order of the essays is the same as in the original French language version. There is no strict timeline in the book. She jumps around from being 8-9 years old in one essay, then 13-14 in another, for example. A timeline is followed only very generally. In the beginning part of the book she is a child for the most part, and towards the end she is an adult, but beyond that the time frame of each section jumps all over, although she indicates how old she was in every case. This might be a little confusing at first, so keep that in mind. Her third husband, Maurice Gaudeket, published a book entitled, Close to Colette: An Intimate Portrait of a Woman of Genius. When you read this book, you will get an idea about why people thought of her in that way. She is truly one of the most important literary figures in French history.I hope readers enjoy this intimate story of a very observant and clever young girl growing up in rural France over a century ago as much as I enjoyed translating it.
